Excursion The Hague

Social + Sustainable garden which includes different ways of planting/gardening. The cork gardening, the rooftop meadow and the robot gardening were the most interesting topics for me. Also in the first image, the rooftop meadow, the black pots have sponge underneath that absorb rainwater and release it back up to water the plants.

Writing Exercise

I’m the sponge, under the plants. It rains a lot, I get wet. I see how the rain drops fell on me, when it’s sunny my aim is it to give water to the plants. It’s always dark, the plants cover me. I don’t want to be seen I just want to save them.

MARNAS – Notes from the movie

https://www.marnasgarden.com/

The film Marnas, talks about the evolution of the Marnas Garden in Denmark over time its design philosophy and its experimental aspects. The ‘garden laboratory’ is not a completed design, as Andersson argues design should not be something finished but should evolve over time through the influence of people and nature.

  • Time is part of the design. Design matures over time and finds its own form. It could be said that it partly discovers itself. Plants die and regenerate; humans leave the process to time, controlling it and not interfering.
  • His view of the garden as an experimental space stems from his understanding of design as a learning process. Different spaces are explored, plants are grown. The concept encouraged during this experiment is the experience and orientation process within the space.
